Z.Plex depth cartridge filters are manufactured using patented Z.Plex filter technology for a graded density filter design that captures different particle sizes in each of its four zones.​ The filters in the Z.Plex family provide unmatched performance with up to twice the life of conventional depth filters. Z.Plex filters have up to 50% lower pressure drop and up to 100% greater dirt holding capacity. Additionally, the melt-bonded exterior and core ensure no media migration providing a lower total cost of filtration.

Hytrex depth cartridge filters are an exceptional value for general applications where long life, high purity and low change-out frequency are required. The filters in the Hytrex family are 100% pure polypropylene depth filters (including adapters), all with exceptional dirt-holding capacity. The true-graded density filter matrix (lower density at the surface of the filter with progressively higher density toward the center) captures particles throughout the entire filter depth. This construction translates to longer life and fewer change-outs compared to existing string-wound or resin-bonded filters.

How to Use the Chemical Compatibility Table:

R = Resistant. No significant change was observed in flow rate or bubble point of the membrane following 48 hours exposure to the test fluid at 77°F (25°C).

LR = Limited Resistance. Moderate changes in physical properties or dimensions of membrane were observed. Filter may be suitable for short term, noncritical use.

NR = Not Resistant. The membrane is basically unstable. Extensive shrinkage or swelling of the membrane may occur. The filter may gradually weaken or partially dissolve after extended exposure.

O = Insufficient Data. Testing on your own solution is recommended.

SUEZ polypropylene cartridge filters are made of pure polypropylene, an inert material which is compatible with a wide range of chemicals. No resins, binders, antistatic agents, or other materials are added during the manufacturing process. SUEZ polypropylene cartridge filters are manufactured with a proprietary melt-blown microfiber technology. This unique process thermally welds microscopic fibers of polypropylene into a compact matrix which resists fiber sloughing and particle unloading into the filtrate, even under extreme mechanical and chemical actions. The manufacturing operation is precisely controlled to yield cartridge filters with consistent micron ratings and true graded density for high particle retention and longer life.

frequently asked questions

what is the direction of fluid flow?

The direction of fluid flow in a depth filter cartridge is from the outside to the inside. This flow direction makes use of the greater outside diameter and surface area and allows for optimum use of the media for contaminant capture.

what are the temperature limits and the differential pressure limits for depth filters?

For non-cored (no additional plastic support core) the maximum recommended temperature is 160°F. As the temperature is increased the allowable differential pressure decreases.

what are the recommended flow rates and how does fluid viscosity impact flow?

The maximum recommended flow rates depend on the contamination of the fluid being filtered and the viscosity of the fluid. For "clean water" such as municipal water feed to an RO system the maximum flow rate is 5 gpm (18.9 lpm) per ten-inch length (TIE) of filter; e.g. a 40" filter will have 4 TIEs.

As the contamination level increases, flow rates should be reduced to increase service life and more effectively utilize the depth filters’ media. For moderately contaminated fluids (10 ppm of solids) a flow rate of 2.0 gpm (7.6 lpm) /TIE is suggested.

As fluid viscosity increases above 1 cps (i.e. the viscosity of water) the pressure drop will rise proportionately. Use the flow vs. pressure drop charts on the product fact sheet and multiply the value by the fluid viscosity to obtain the pressure drop. Size the filtration system to fall below the allowable maximum pressure drop.
